LUCENA CITY – A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck off the town of Calatagan, Batangas province, on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. Phivolcs said the tectonic tremor occurred at 10:01 a.m., with its epicenter located 19 kilometers southwest of the municipality. It had a depth of 52 kilometers. Tectonic quakes are caused by the sudden movement of rocks along faults or plate boundaries. The quake was reported at Instrumental Intensity 1 in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
