BACOLOD CITY—Health authorities have noted a spike in the number of persons here with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). According to Jonathan Diaz, head of the city’s HIV/AIDS awareness program, the count of persons with HIV as of September 2025 is 1,708, up by 396 from 1,312 in July 2025. The count is a cumulative figure from 1995, when 264 had died, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).
