CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — A ranking official of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) was shot dead Friday night in Pinamalayan town, police said. In an exchange of emails on Saturday morning, PLt. Col. Joel Paningbatan, chief of the Pinamalayan Police Station, identified the victim as Tony Mendeja, 64, a member of ORMECO’s board of directors representing the municipalities of Bongabong and Bansud.
