'Criminal thieves are free while innocent man is in prison!' - Thousands march across Brazil demanding Bolsonaro's freedom and Lula's removal

"Thousands of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro rallied across Brazil on Sunday, demanding amnesty for those involved in the takeover and vandalism of government buildings following his defeat in the 2022 presidential election. Footage shows demonstrators marching through Sao Paulo, chanting, carrying Brazilian flags and inflatable figures depicting caricatures of Bolsonaro, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Vice-President of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes. The demonstration, named 'Wake up, Brazil', was called by Federal Deputy Nikolas Ferreira through social media to criticise the federal government, the country's leader and the justices of the STF. "It is incredible how this left has caused the arrest of a good, innocent and just man, a Brazilian who loves Brazil, loves Brazilians, and who is now in prison, while criminal thieves are free in this country, it is unbelievable", shared Edson, a demonstrator. On January 8, 2023, following Lula da Silva's assumption of power, radicalised groups invaded the headquarters of the three branches of government in Brasilia, an event authorities described as an attempt to interfere with the country's democratic order. Since then, the STF has pushed forward investigations and judicial proceedings against hundreds of those involved, who argue that the court's decisions are politically motivated. "Regarding the STF, we know that many things are wrong. [...] People fight, they fight for our rights, for justice and especially for justice for Bolsonaro, who was the best president and truly is today the representative of the Brazilian people," remarked protester Marcia. The Lula government has repeatedly stated that it will not interfere in judicial decisions and that accountability for the events of January 2023 is essential for democratic stability. "
