GS economic development underway - CELAC-Africa leaders meet in Bogota for high-level summit

"Heads of State and political leaders arrived in Bogota on Saturday, for the X CELAC Summit, held within the framework of the CELAC-Africa High-Level Forum, aiming to strengthening regional integration and multilateralism. Footage shows President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Leader of Uruguay Yamandu Orsi and President of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye, and other leaders arriving in Agora Convention Center. Upon arrival, Colombia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, described the day of the summit as 'historic' and detailed its objectives. "To tell you that today is truly a special, historic day because of the CELAC-Africa meeting, with the objective of reconnecting with the African continent with which we share history, ancestry and also opportunities for the future for strategic projects and projects of unity and economic development of the Global South," she stated. For her part, Francia Marquez, Vice President of Colombia, said she was "happy as vice president to have led this task." "Very pleased that this reconnection between Latin America and the Caribbean, which has been a purpose of our government, of President Gustavo Petro leading CELAC, is taking place today, is concluding today and is a complete success that opens doors and opportunities for our peoples, for our country, for our regions Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean," she added. As part of the agenda, the adoption of the Bogota Declaration is expected, a key document that recognises the progress achieved over the past year in terms of regional integration, cooperation, promotion of peace and multilateralism in Latin America and the Caribbean. Likewise, priorities will be established for the next period and Colombia will hand over the pro tempore presidency to Uruguay. The CELAC-Africa summit, held in Colombia from March 18 to 21, serves as a platform for political, economic and strategic dialogue between Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, with the main objective of strengthening South-South cooperation, boosting trade, attracting investment and advancing a common agenda on issues such as sustainable development, connectivity, financing, energy transition and digital transformation."
