"Hungarian Member of Parliament (MP) Balazs Orban said Budapest must prioritise its national interests over those of Ukraine, stressing that Hungary is not seeking confrontation but is prepared to defend its position. Speaking at the CPAC conference in Budapest on Saturday, the Political Director to the Prime Minister framed relations with Kiev as a direct clash of interests, particularly on energy and EU-related issues. "Either their interest will succeed, or our interest will be protected, so what we are preparing for is that we are not looking for any kind of confrontation, but we have to be able to protect our interests because that's our duty," he said. He reiterated that Hungary opposes policies that could undermine access to affordable energy or push the country into closer alignment with Ukraine against public sentiment. "The Hungarian people do not want to support war. They don't want to be in the same union with Ukraine, and they want to use cheap energy. That's so simple," he added. The CPAC gathering is a forum for conservative and nationalist voices, with figures like German AfD co-chair Alice Weidel and Spanish Vox leader Santiago Abascal also in attendance. It will run until Sunday in the Hungarian capital."
