CEBU CITY, Philippines — Authorities are intensifying their investigation into the San Fernando shootout in southern Cebu, which injured a police officer and killed two people, including the suspect. Police reports indicate Saturday’s (March 21) fatal shooting may have stemmed from mistaken identity. The suspect, Jay Castañares, allegedly shot the victim, gulaman vendor Emilio Miñoza Sabroso, fearing that the latter was an asset, according to a report from Cebu-based radio station dyHP.
