BirGün reporter İsmail Arı, who had traveled to the Turhal district of Tokat to visit family during the holiday, was taken into custody yesterday evening around 10:10 p.m. as part of an investigation being conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Arı, who faces charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information,” was brought to Ankara early this morning. Arı’s proceedings at the police station are ongoing. In a message to the public, Arı stated, “For the past year, they’ve been looking for an excuse to arrest me. My only crime is practicing journalism in this country. Journalism is not a crime.”
