F-15 down? - Iranian army releases footage claiming US jet kill near Hormuz island

"Iranian army released the footage on Sunday, claiming it had taken down an 'enemy F-15 fighter jet' in the sky near Hormuz island.   Footage appears to show the moment of interception and a bright flash upon impact.   The exact date and location of the footage, or the type of targeted jet, cannot be independently verified.   Iran's army said its Joint Air Defence Command targeted an enemy F-15 near Hormuz Island after detecting it over the country's southern coast and accusing it of launching a missile. Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari also said an F-16 was hit, while Iranian media, citing the IRGC, earlier said that "for the first time, an F-35 fighter jet was targeted by a new Iranian air defence system." A US official at United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said during a press briefing that an F-35 made an 'emergency landing' in the Middle East after coming under fire, believed to be from Iranian sources, during a mission over Iran. The pilot reportedly received medical condition and was 'stable'.   Tensions in the Middle East escalated after a joint US-Israeli operation against Iranian targets started on February 28 amid diplomatic talks aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear and missile programmes. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US military positions in the region, with explosions reported across Gulf countries. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead on the first day, and his son Mojtaba Khamenei was later named as successor. The war also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a route for about 20 percent of global oil, as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned it could be restricted to allies, driving a global surge in oil prices."
