Expanding safety zone - IDF says senior Hezbollah commander among nine killed in 'targeted' operations across southern Lebanon

"The Israeli military reported the Commander of the Special Forces in Hezbollah's Radwan Force, Abu Khalil Barji, is among nine killed during strikes across southern Lebanon. Aerial footage shows smoke rising after an airstrike struck an alleged Hezbollah position at an undisclosed location. "Barji served for years as a commander in the Radwan Force and recently commanded its special forces, which were mainly responsible for attacking IDF troops," the Israeli military wrote on X. Hezbollah's high-ranking official was killed along with two other members of the group in an operation in Majdal Selm in southern Lebanon. This comes after Israel witnessed deadly rocket attacks in its southern and northern areas, resulting in dozens of casualties and infrastructural damage. Israeli forces are advancing further into Lebanon as part of a limited operation to expand the buffer zone along the northern border, a move that has displaced over a million people. The Middle East has been thrown into a military conflict after a joint operation by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28 killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Israel and the US have targeted multiple residential, military, and energy infrastructure sites across Iran. Tehran has since responded by launching retaliatory strikes on Israel and US military positions across the Gulf. The conflict widened further after Hezbollah launched strikes on Israel, saying they were carried out in retaliation for Khamenei's death and Israeli operations in Lebanon."
