TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur—Troops from the Philippine Army’s 36th Infantry Battalion engaged in a firefight with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members on Sunday in Barangay Nurcia, Lanuza town, Surigao del Sur, leaving two suspected rebels dead. Initial reports said two alleged NPA members were killed in the encounter, while two government troops sustained injuries and were immediately brought to a medical facility for treatment.
