"Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong-un, was re-elected President of State Affairs on Sunday during the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), state media reported. Images released by the Korean Central News Agency on Monday show deputies convening at the Mansudae Assembly Hall, raising voting cards during the procedure, delivering speeches and applauding Kim's re-election. "Guided by him as the head of state, the DPRK will prosper as a dignified country of the people and a power independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence advancing along the road of most sacred and bold pioneering," KCNA reported. During the session, Kim proposed the establishment of a State Affairs Commission, which assumed authority over the election of Pyongyang's SPA Standing Committee and Cabinet. Deputy Pak Thae-song was appointed premier of the Cabinet, according to KCNA. Kim's re-election on Sunday marks the third time he has held the DPRK's supreme leadership post, following his initial appointment in June 2016 and a subsequent re-election in April 2019."
