DreamWorks Animation just dropped the trailer for its newest feature film, Forgotten Island . What's unique about the movie is where the studio and filmmakers took inspiration from—Filipino mythology. It is the first major Hollywood-produced animated film based entirely on Filipino culture. In fact, the film is set in the Philippines. Directed by Joel Crawford ( Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) and Filipino-American Januel Mercardo, the story revolves around two best friends, Jo (voiced by Fil-Am singer H.E.R.) and Raissa ( Liza Soberano ) whose friendship faces a challenge after one of them decides to move to the US after graduating high school. Before that even happens, the two fall into a mysterious portal, transporting them to a mystical island, facing monsters and other creatures. Set in the '90s, the trailer also features a throwback soundtrack with “Don't You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds. The film likewise features the voices of Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto, Jenny Slate, Lea Salonga, Jo Koy, Dolly de Leon, Ronny Chieng, and Amielyn Abellera.
