Piston, Bayan say Marcos' emergency powers ‘useless’ amid oil price hike

MANILA, Philippines — Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and transport group Piston have criticized the emergency powers given to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid his declaration of national energy emergency, saying that the powers are useless as many drivers and operators continue to suffer from the oil price hike.  Bayan secretary general Mong Palatino and Piston president Mody Floranda made these statements on Friday as the No Oil Price Hike Coalition staged its two-day transport strike from March 26-27.  The leaders said that Marcos’ emergency powers are just a facade to make the government look good amid these situations.
