All buildings, monuments being preserved

LAHORE: Commissioner Lahore Marryam Khan stated that all buildings and monuments of historical and cultural significance are being preserved. She made these remarks during her visit to the Rim Market and Larry Adda area to review the development projects being carried out by the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). She was accompanied by District Commissioner (DC) Lahore Captain Ali Ijaz (R), LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, and TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain. The Commissioner emphasised that the areas surrounding the historic Begum Zamani Mosque and Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Gurdwara will be protected. She added that the transfer of the Rim Market will not harm businesses; rather, it will promote them, as all stakeholders are being consulted in this process. “The transfer of the market will be executed in phases. Protecting historical buildings while also safeguarding businesses is a priority,” she noted. She averred that the preservation of all buildings and monuments of historical and cultural importance is essential. She stressed that preserving the world’s cultural heritage is a national duty for Pakistan. During the visit, the Commissioner received on-site briefings about the Rim Market relocation plan and visited the historic Maryam Zamani Begum Mosque, Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh, and the Pani Wala Talab building. The Lahore Walled City Authority and the Assistant Commissioner provided updates on the progress of the ongoing LDA development project concerning the Pani Wala Talab historical building.
