Yes, that young woman who started out performing in nightclubs, setting hairspray cans on fire, making her own costumes and even providing her own fog machine has come a long way. As the pop icon celebrates her 40th birthday this weekend, we’re looking back at the beginnings of her career, to recognise just how far she’s come from those early years to international superstardom.
