"Hundreds of protesters gathered in Seoul on Saturday to oppose the potential deployment of South Korean forces to the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Footage shows protesters sitting on the streets and chanting slogans such as 'No cooperation' and 'Government, work for peace! Struggle'. Some are later seen marching with banners reading 'End the South Korea–US alliance with the gangster empire.' "I oppose the United States' war of aggression. Iranian children and civilians are being killed, and I believe the war must be stopped as soon as possible," Beom Joon Jeon, a protester, said. "The global economy is in turmoil because of Trump, and now the issue of troop deployment is also being raised," another protester, Suk Su Guu, added. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had explicitly called on the Republic of Korea (ROK), along with allies like Japan and other nations, to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to help secure oil shipping routes. In response, the ROK announced that it is reviewing the request, with officials acknowledging the strategic importance of the strait while facing domestic limitations. The demonstration comes as tensions continue to rise following joint US–Israeli military operations against Iran, launched on February 28. The conflict has triggered retaliatory strikes, disrupted energy markets, and raised concerns over fuel supply stability in import-dependent countries such as ROK."
