"Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart Dr. Badr Abdelatty arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan to participate in a meeting aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East. Footage shows the two ministers arriving at the airport and being received by Pakistani officials. According to a statement released by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan “will visit Pakistan on March 29 and 30 to participate in the Islamabad meeting to discuss regional developments.” The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Abdelatty traveled to Islamabad to meet with his counterparts from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey “to discuss developments in the military escalation in the region and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.” Islamabad is set to host a quadrilateral meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, alongside Fidan, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and Abdelatty. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the ministers will hold “in-depth discussions on a range of issues, including efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.” Tensions have escalated across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, amid diplomatic talks aimed at 'curbing Iran's nuclear and missile programmes'. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli and US assets in the region, accompanied by reports of explosions in several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor. The conflict spilt over into Lebanon as Hezbollah intervened 'in revenge' for the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader. Shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, were disrupted following its closure. The latest escalation has driven oil prices above $100 per barrel, rattling global energy markets and sparking protests in several countries. "
