"Thrill-seekers rushed to experience the newly opened zip line after an amusement park in southwest China became viral on social media for extreme vertigo tourism. Footage filmed on Thursday shows visitors speeding through steep mountains on a tube-style zipline hanging above the 280-metre-deep Hou’er Sinkhole at Monkey Ear Tiankeng in Guizhou province. "I didn't feel like it was going very fast, and there wasn't that sensation of weightlessness. It might be a little scary," shared a visitor after taking the ride. "Overall, I'd say it's pretty thrilling. I'm someone who generally enjoys this kind of thrill ride," said another visitor. The project manager at Guizhou Kaiyang Tiankeng Tourism said visitor safety is the top priority, adding that high-quality materials and equipment were used in line with operating procedures. "First, regarding construction, we adhere to national construction standards and use high-quality materials to ensure compliance with these standards. Second, regarding visitor equipment, we use imported zip-line gear. Third, before opening each day, we conduct thorough inspections of critical components," he said. The Monkey Ear Tiankeng is a naturally formed sinkhole in a classic karst landscape, sitting at an average elevation of 1,100 metres. Covering a planned area of 18 square kilometres, the site includes cliffs, underground rivers, caves and waterfalls."
