LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that sufficient quantities of petroleum products were available in the country, to meet national requirement due to timely government decisions. He made these remarks while chairing a review meeting on the implementation of fuel conservation and austerity measures amid the prevailing regional situation. Among others, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Dr Musadik Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Owais Khan Leghari, Special Assistant Tariq Bajwa, State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad and other senior officials attended the meeting via video link. The meeting was informed that the demand and supply of petroleum products and the entire supply chain are being monitored regularly. It was further told that a digital dashboard has been developed for this purpose. The participants of the meeting were apprised that arrangements for the import of petrol for next month have already been made. They were informed that Pakistan, unlike other countries, is not facing long queues or mismanagement in fuel supply, which reflects government’s effective administration. The participants of the meeting urged the public to support the government’s austerity drive, minimize unnecessary travel and prioritize teleconferencing at offices and workplaces. Addressing the meeting, the premier said the government accorded top priority to provide relief to the people in prevailing circumstances and maximum relief was extended to masses over the last three weeks. He said the federal government has allocated a substantial sum of one hundred and twenty-five(125) billion of rupees by making cuts in various savings and development budgets to prevent skyrocketing of fuel prices and to protect public from direct impacts of global tensions. The Prime Minister also directed the provincial governments to provide all possible facilitation to motorcycle and rickshaw owners to register their vehicles in their own names. This initiative will help digitize the data of motorcycles and rickshaws across the country, allowing their owners to benefit from government-provided relief in the future, he said. He also directed the relevant authorities to expedite coordination with the Chief Secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Officials briefed participants of the meeting on the progress of austerity and conservation measures. They said the demand and supply of petroleum products, along with the entire supply chain, were being closely monitored through a digital dashboard, and arrangements for petrol imports for April had already been finalised.
