"The Michelin Guide presented its 2026 selection of 225 recommended restaurants in Mexico this Tuesday in Guadalajara, which for the first time included establishments from that region. Guests also enjoyed traditional performances and cultural entertainment, bringing an evening of celebration to a close. During the ceremony, held for the first time in Jalisco, Michelin stars were awarded to Gaba and La Once Mil in Mexico City, Alcalde and Xokol in Guadalajara, and Ixi’im, Huniik, and Barra de Huniik from Merida. In addition, Xokol and Ixi’im, along with Damiana, from Baja California, received the Michelin Green Star, which recognises exceptional gastronomy. Cristina Flores, production manager of the Xokol restaurant, stated that the distinction represents "greater responsibility and a greater commitment to everything we do," as well as promoting gastronomy made with "all the products that come from the fields." Francisco Ruano, chef of the Alcalde restaurant, expressed his delight at the recognition, which he feels highlights the growing appreciation for Jalisco's cuisine. "More than for Alcalde, it's nice that Jalisco is recognised as a gastronomic destination. For the team that does everything we do in the restaurant every day, it's a morale boost, for the city as well," he said. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Tourism for Jalisco, Michelle Fridman, celebrated the Michelin Guide's recognition of "the greatness of Jalisco's gastronomy." "We leave with many mentions, many awards, some stars, and above all, with the commitment to keep working hard so that next year we get even more stars," she added. This year, Jalisco, Puebla, and Yucatan joined other Mexican states such as Baja California Sur, Mexico City, and Nuevo León, which already had restaurants included in the guide.
