Security linked with economy, governance: PA Speaker

LAHORE: The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, stated that the national security extends beyond the protection of borders and is intrinsically linked with economic stability, human security, education, environmental protection, cyber security, and effective governance. Addressing the “Forman Youth Summit 2026” and “National Security and Governance Seminar” at Forman Christian College University, he emphasized that it is imperative to sensitize the youth regarding both traditional and non-traditional security challenges so that they may effectively respond to emerging global and national threats. Appreciating the efforts of the organizers, faculty members, and students, he said such academic forums play a pivotal role in fostering intellectual development and strengthening national consciousness among the younger generation. He observed that Youm-e-Takbeer is a landmark in Pakistan’s history, when on 28 May 1998 under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif conducted successful nuclear tests in Chaghi becoming the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first in the Muslim world. He paid rich tribute to Pakistan’s scientists, political leadership, and the armed forces for making the country’s defense invincible. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
