‘Pakistan, China now prioritising second phase of CPEC’

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan and China are now prioritising the second phase of CPEC, which focuses heavily on industrialization, agricultural modernization, and socio-economic development to uplift the lives of the populace. Dar stated that the two countries remain deeply committed to justice, fairness, multilateralism, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity across international forums. By reinforcing their shared vision for the future of mankind, he added the ironclad brotherhood between Pakistan and China stands ready to forge even closer ties, acting as a permanent anchor for peace, progress, and prosperity. Marking a historic milestone in international diplomacy, Pakistan and China are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their bilateral diplomatic relations. The occasion highlights a unique journey that has transformed from its initial foundations into an ironclad, “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” built on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and an enduring brotherhood that transcends transactional convenience. Over the past seven and a half decades, the bilateral relationship has consistently withstood the test of time and changing global dynamics. “Both nations have maintained unwavering solidarity, standing by each other through diverse challenges while firmly safeguarding each other’s core interests,” DPM remarked. This generational bond enjoys deep-rooted continuity across various governments and is heavily driven by the active contributions of leaders, business communities, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students from both sides. A central pillar of this enduring friendship is the valuable contribution of Chinese companies, engineers, and professionals working in Pakistan. Dar emphasised. Their dedicated efforts have driven significant development across the country, particularly under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). As the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC has completely overhauled Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy landscape over the last decade. Amid shifting and complex global geopolitical challenges, the strategic convergence between Islamabad and Beijing continues to provide critical regional stability. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
