ISLAMABAD: Poland’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Maciej Pisarski, on Wednesday appreciated Islamabad’s role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, saying mediation efforts reflected the confidence both sides placed in Pakistan. “Only a few countries maintain relations with both sides in the conflict. This reflects trust from both parties, despite existing concerns,” the envoy stated while addressing a “Meet the Press” session at the National Press Club, Islamabad. He said Poland supported diplomacy and negotiations as the primary means for resolving conflicts, adding that Warsaw wanted to see the ongoing engagement efforts succeed because “peace and stability are extremely important.” Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, Pisarski said the conflict should be resolved under the principles of United Nations resolutions, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. “Pakistan and Poland have very cordial relations,” he remarked, adding that “recent contacts, including the visit of the Polish Foreign Minister, Radosaw–– Sikorski to Pakistan, have marked the beginning of a new chapter in political consultations between the two sides.” He said trade between the two nations amounted to USD 1.3 billion and stressed that technology, management, information technology (IT), and investment were some important areas of cooperation.” Ambassador Pisarski also highlighted defence cooperation between Islamabad and Warsaw, saying both countries were working to restore momentum in bilateral defence ties after disruptions caused during the Covid-19 pandemic. Commenting on regional affairs, he noted that both Pakistan and India could benefit more through cooperation and dialogue. “No country can fully benefit by isolating itself from its region,” he remarked, stating that Poland wished to see improvement in Pakistan-India relations despite the existence of longstanding issues. The envoy also appreciated Pakistan’s tourism potential, particularly for Polish mountaineers, noting that the first woman to summit K2 in 1986 was Polish. Earlier, National Press Club President Razaq Sial and Secretary Rao Furqan welcomed the Polish ambassador and emphasized the importance of media and diplomacy in promoting international understanding and harmony.
