"Guangdong launched a Level Four emergency disaster relief response after days of torrential rain triggered severe flooding across southern China. Footage filmed on May 20 and 21 shows streets submerged, with floodwaters reaching the roofs of some buildings. Firefighters were seen using boats to evacuate residents as rescue operations continued. The downpours killed at least 25 people, while authorities warned of a continued risk of landslides and flash floods. Yangchun was among the worst-hit areas. In the city's southwest, 516 rescue workers from 10 teams were deployed for relief operations. More than 8,500 people had reportedly been moved to safe areas by early Thursday. Hekou town in Yangchun recorded 962.5 millimetres of cumulative rainfall, including 732.5 millimetres in just 12 hours. Neighbouring Enping also saw extreme rainfall, with Naji town recording Guangdong's highest hourly total at 117.2 millimetres. The Guangdong Meteorological Observatory said the rainfall was expected to weaken from Friday."
