"Iranians marked the 37th anniversary of the passing of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, in Tehran on Thursday. “Imam Khomeini called America the Great Satan. We witnessed this in the explosions at Minab School, in the martyrdom of our children, and in the killing of the father of our Ummah,” said Ahmad Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini. Footage shows hundreds of people gathering at the mausoleum of Imam Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, waving Iranian flags and taking part in commemorative ceremonies. A memorial chair honouring the late leader was also displayed at the site. Mohammad Javad Haj Ali Akbari, a representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, read a message from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who said that Iran’s enemies were seeking to weaken public resilience and influence the country’s decision-making process by spreading doubt, fear and division. “In confronting these malicious intentions, everyone must neutralise these plots through steadfastness, awareness, unity, cohesion, mutual trust, and by refusing to echo the enemy’s narrative,” the message said. Hundreds of thousands of Iranians from across the country reportedly traveled to Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum to commemorate the founder of the Islamic Republic, which was established following the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Khomeini died on June 3, 1989, at the age of 89. Around 170 people, many of them children, were killed in the Minab attack on the girls school at the start of the latest US and Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran blamed the United States and Israel for the strike. Israel said it was unaware of any operations in the area. On May 19, US Central Command chief General Brad Cooper claimed the school was located inside an active cruise missile base."
