"Hundreds of Argentina fans in Bangladesh's Shariatpur rallied on motorbikes, wearing team jerseys and flying both Argentine and Bangladeshi flags to show support for the defending champions ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Footage filmed on Saturday shows fans waving Argentina flags while riding motorbikes, with many young supporters also joining the procession on a truck. "On behalf of the Argentina Fans Club of Shariatpur, we are holding a motorcade today to support and congratulate Argentina," said Mahmud Hasan Kiron, an Argentina fan. Another fan, Rubel Akon, said he admires retired Argentinian footballer Angel Di Maria, who scored in the 2022 World Cup final. Despite Bangladesh not being a major footballing nation, the country experiences massive World Cup fever every four years, with fans passionately supporting teams like Brazil and Argentina, decorating streets with flags, and celebrating matches as if their own team were playing. Argentina will play two friendlies, one against Honduras on June 7 and another against Iceland on June 10, before kicking off their World Cup campaign against Algeria on June 17 in Kansas City. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin on June 11 in Mexico. The tournament will be hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico in an expanded 48-team format."
