Medical bodies urge 40pc tax on sweetened beverages to curb rising diabetes burden

ISLAMABAD - Leading medical and public health organisations in Pakistan have written to the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, and other key policymakers, calling for a significant increase in the Federal Excise Duty (FED) on all sweetened beverages to at least 40 per cent in the upcoming budget 2026-27.
