"A bear cub has taken a liking to a road in the Magadan region in Russia's Far East: the animal regularly wanders onto the road and begs drivers for food. Footage filmed on Monday shows the bear wandering along the roadside, watching the passing cars with interest. "[Seeing this sort of thing] is nothing out of the ordinary. It’s not unusual to see a bear on the road. They're looking for something to eat," Ilya Leshchinsky, a local, said. He added that, under no circumstances should the animal be fed, as it may become accustomed to approaching people. Nikolai Dokuchaev, head of the laboratory at the Institute of Biological Problems of the North of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also advised against close contact. "He's just one year old this year, so he may not be particularly dangerous yet, of course, but by next year he'll be a fully-fledged beast to be feared," he specified. Alexander Matern, a state inspector with the Magadan Region’s Hunting Supervision Department, reminded the public that even an injured bear is capable of causing serious injury."
