Philippine Red Cross activates emergency fund appeal for Mindanao quake victims

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has activated its emergency fund appeal to support communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck west of General Santos City, as responders continued assessing humanitarian needs across parts of Mindanao. The appeal seeks donations that will help fund emergency medical services, relief distributions, safe water provision, psychosocial support, shelter assistance, and other aid for families affected by the powerful earthquake on Monday morning, June 8. PRC personnel and volunteers were deployed shortly after the quake to conduct rapid assessments and provide immediate assistance in affected areas. Ambulances were dispatched to North Cotabato, South Cotabato, and Gingoog City, while responders also provided medical assistance to students who experienced hyperventilation following the strong ground shaking. The humanitarian organization said emergency response assets have been placed on standby across Regions XI and XII, including six ambulances, three food trucks, four water tankers, two Volunteer Emergency Response Vehicles, a rescue boat, a Humvee, and cargo vehicles. The PRC said donations wouldhelp sustain ongoing response operations and support communities that may be affected by aftershocks, displacement, and other impacts of the earthquake.
