Footage shows Xi's motorcade, escorted by police, en route to the Mokran House as crowds lined the streets waving flowers and the flags of both nations. Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were later welcomed by Kim and First Lady Ri Sol-ju. Both leaders delivered speeches at the event, drawing applause from attending dignitaries. During his address, Xi praised the historical ties linked by 'mountains and rivers' with Pyongyang and expressed willingness to enhance cooperation and deepen bilateral friendship in the modern era, according to state media. Kim, in turn, reportedly hailed the warm Beijing-Pyongyang relations, pointing to the public enthusiasm during Xi’s arrival as evidence of the 'invincible DPRK-China relations'. Xi arrived in the DPRK capital earlier on Monday to begin a two-day state visit at the invitation of Kim, marking his first trip to the DPRK in seven years. The Pyongyang summit follows a series of high-level meetings in Beijing, where Xi Jinping hosted back-to-back meetings with US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin in May. On Xi's arrival, DPRK state media called for a unified opposition to 'hegemonism and power politics' to mark the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
