"A shipment of 1,700 tons of food and essential supplies from Mexico and Belize arrived in Havana on Sunday, at a time when the United States' pressures on Cuba persist. Images broadcast by the state-run Canal Caribe show the ship Asian Katra docking with the supplies. Subsequently, workers unloaded the supplies with hand trucks. The management, organization, and assembly of the humanitarian aid was the result of coordinated work between the governments of Mexico and Belize, solidarity groups, Cubans residing in those nations, and a public call issued by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada. Betsy Diaz, Cuba's Minister of Domestic Trade, expressed her gratitude for the "solidarity aid from two countries." "Mexico, reaffirming its position of continuing to help our country, our people. Thank you to its presidency, the Mexican and Belizean people, the authorities who have made it possible for this donation of food and basic supplies to arrive, some medical supplies are also coming. And also thank the Foreign Ministries of both countries and the embassies," she stated. The minister added that "in such complex times" with an escalation of U.S. measures and a new executive order that tightens sanctions "that countries continue to demonstrate that solidarity for Cuba says a lot." For his part, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel commented on the sending of donations, stating that he appreciates "the solidarity embrace in such difficult times." The arrival of the shipment adds to other demonstrations of international cooperation and solidarity received by Cuba so far in 2026."
