"Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a colourful art performance in Pyongyang on Monday during a two-day state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the invitation of leader Kim Jong Un. Footage shows the audience applauding and cheering as Kim and Xi entered the venue with their wives, Ri Sol-ju and Peng Liyuan. Musical, acrobatic and military performances followed. Chinese and DPRK flags filled the venue, alongside portraits of the two leaders, celebrating the close relationship between Beijing and Pyongyang. "The performance, which showed the deep trust and genuine friendship of the DPRK people with Comrade Xi Jinping and the fraternal Chinese people through cheerful artistic depiction, beautifully decorated another page of the history of friendship and solidarity between the DPRK and China," the Korean Central News Agency reported. Xi arrived in the DPRK capital earlier on Monday for his first visit to the country since 2019. During talks, the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation and increase high-level exchanges. The Pyongyang summit followed separate meetings in Beijing between Xi and US President Donald Trump, and between Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in May. Ahead of Xi's arrival, DPRK state media called for united opposition to 'hegemonism and power politics'. The visit takes place weeks before the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance."
