"A shipment of 1,700 tonnes of food and essential supplies from Mexico and Belize has arrived in Havana, as US pressure on Cuba continues. Footage broadcast by the state-run Canal Caribe shows the ship 'Asian Katra' docking with supplies. Workers can be seen unloading the supplies using hand trucks. The management, organisation, and coordination of the humanitarian assistance were the result of a collaborative effort between the governments of Mexico and Belize, solidarity groups, and Cubans residing in these countries, as well as a public call for assistance issued by the Mexican newspaper, La Jornada. Betsy Diaz, Cuba's Minister of Domestic Trade, expressed her gratitude for the 'solidarity aid from two countries'. "Mexico, reaffirming its position of continuing to help our country and our people. Thank you to its presidency, the Mexican and Belizean people, and the authorities who have made it possible for this donation of food and basic supplies to arrive; some medical supplies are also coming. And also thank the foreign ministries of both countries and the embassies," Diaz stated. The minister added that 'in such complex times' with an escalation of US measures and a new executive order that tightens sanctions, 'that countries continue to demonstrate that solidarity for Cuba says a lot'. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has reportedly commented on the sending of donations, stating that he appreciates 'the solidarity embrace in such difficult times'. The arrival of the shipment is in addition to other examples of international cooperation and solidarity that Cuba has received so far in 2026."
