"President Claudia Sheinbaum led the official flag ceremony for the Mexican National Soccer Team that will participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held at the High-Performance Center of the Mexican Soccer Federation in Mexico City. During the ceremony, Sheinbaum handed the national flag to goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who received it on behalf of the 26 selected players and the coaching staff. "I entrust to your patriotism this flag, which symbolizes your independence, honor, institutions, our people, and the integrity of your territory," expressed the president, to which the players responded: "Yes, I protest!" Ochoa, who will play in his sixth World Cup, led the group called by head coach Javier Aguirre. The event was also attended by Mikel Arriola, president of Liga MX; Rafael Marquez, assistant coach; Ivar Sisniega, president of the Mexican Soccer Federation, and Duilio Davino, director of National Teams. "May your example inspire millions of Mexicans to believe in the power of sports and the power of their dreams," added Sheinbaum at the conclusion of the event. Mexico will debut in the tournament on Thursday, June 11, against South Africa at the Estadio Ciudad de Mexico, which will become the first venue to host three World Cups. The country will host the tournament for the third time, following the 1970 and 1986 World Cups."
