"Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum attended the official flag-raising ceremony for the national football team, which will compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The event was held at the High-Performance Center of the Mexican Football Federation in Mexico City. During the ceremony, Sheinbaum presented the national flag to goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who accepted it on behalf of the 26 selected players and coaching staff. "I entrust to your patriotism this flag, which symbolises your independence, honour, institutions, our people, and the integrity of your territory," expressed the president. "May your example inspire millions of Mexicans to believe in the power of sports and the power of their dreams," added Sheinbaum. Head coach Javier Aguirre, President of Liga MX Mikel Arriola, Assistant coach Rafael Marquez, President of the Mexican Football Federation Ivar Sisniega and Duilio Davino, Director of National Teams, attended the ceremony, among others. Mexico will make its tournament debut on Thursday, June 11, against South Africa, at the Estadio Ciudad de Mexico, which will be the first stadium to host three FIFA World Cups. This will be the third time the country has hosted the tournament, following the 1970 and 1986 FIFA World Cups."
