"Mexican federal agents seized 88 kilograms of fentanyl hidden inside a semi-truck carrying agricultural products in Sonora over the weekend. Footage released on Monday shows an officer inspecting the vehicle on Federal Highway 15, between Hermosillo and Santa Ana. Authorities also displayed 88 brown-taped packages recovered from the cargo and an image of the suspect in custody. Officers from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection stopped the truck during a highway security operation. Criminal Investigation Agency personnel arrested the driver after finding a wooden slatted crate concealed among sacks of agricultural products. Inside, agents found 88 rectangular packages tightly wrapped in brown tape. Authorities said the packages contained exactly 88 kilograms of a substance that tested positive for fentanyl. "A significant blow was dealt to the criminal structure dedicated to narcotics trafficking in the northwest of the country, by interrupting a priority logistical route," the Federal Attorney General's Office said. The driver was informed of his constitutional rights and taken before the Federal Public Prosecutor. The seized drugs were also handed over to prosecutors, who will determine his legal status.
