Lawmaker files cyber libel complaint vs 18 alleged bagmen

MANILA, Philippines —Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. on Tuesday filed a libel and cyber libel complaint before the Manila Prosecutor's Office, which is under the Department of Justice, against the 18 people, known as former Marines, who claimed that they delivered money in suitcases to several former and incumbent lawmakers. "For the record, I vehemently deny the incorrect, baseless, and/or misleading allegations made by the complainants in the Libelous Salaysay distributed and made known to the media and lunch during the Libelous Press Conference and thereafter published on respondent DWSI's Facebook page...,"Abante said. The veteran lawmaker said he was falsely accused of receipt of public money allegedly delivered through suitcase. He said that the statement, "then still unsigned by the 18...and unnotarized", was publicized in a Feb. 24, 2026 press conference. The statement was dated Feb. 23, 2026. Also named respondent in Abante's complaint was lawyer Levito Baligod for alleged cyber libel and alleged libel. DWSI 864 was also named as a respondent in the lawmaker's complaint but only for alleged cyber libel.
