Edward Bluemel The BBC has announced the lead actor in its new Agatha Christie adaptation. Hercule will centre around the iconic Christie character Poirot as a young man, and feature Edward Bluemel in the title role. Edward is known for his roles in TV shows like Killing Eve , A Discovery Of Witches and Sex Education . Most recently, he appeared in another Agatha Christie series, playing Jimmy Thesiger in Netflix’s Seven Dials . He said: “I feel very lucky to have been trusted with such an iconic character who has been played by so many great actors. I can’t wait to continue Hercule’s legacy.” Poirot has previously been played by David Suchet in numerous TV adaptations, and by Sir Kenneth Branagh in a series of star-studded ensemble films released between 2017 and 2023. David Suchet as Poirot in 2010 Benji Waters – who penned We Might Regret This, which also starred Edward Bluemel – has written the six-part series, which is co-produced by James Prichard, the grandson of Agatha Christie. He said: “My father had the privilege of working with David Suchet for nearly 25 years, and I now have the good fortune of being able to share my great grandmother’s brilliant stories with a new generation of viewers. “Edward Bluemel is an extremely talented performer and will make a great addition to the long line of actors that have played this celebrated character, aided and abetted by Benji Walters’ thoughtful scripts. I cannot wait to see Edward on screen as Hercule Poirot.” Filming on Hercule will get underway this summer, with more casting details expected in due course. An official BBC press release teased: “The series is an intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars. “The series takes a magnifying glass to three of Christie’s most celebrated stories, while also charting Hercule’s burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and introducing him to one particular nemesis…” MORE TV NEWS: Tip Toe Creator Russell T Davies Talks Us Through The Show's Brutal Ending There's Been An Important Update On Rivals' Return Amid Mid-Season Break Hannah Waddingham Reacts To Ted Lasso Fans Who Want Ted And Rebecca To Get Together
