A court on Tuesday sentenced a man to a seven-year prison term for breaking into the home of famous singer-turned-actress Nana last year, and threatening her and her mother with a weapon while demanding money. The Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court handed down the sentence to the 34-year-old after convicting him of robbery resulting in injury over the break-in in Guri, east of Seoul, in November. "Given the severity of an armed break-in at nighttime when peace should be preserved, a corresponding punishment is necessary," the court said. "The victims are complaining of mental and physical suffering and are demanding punishment." The defendant had claimed he was unarmed at the time of the break-in, and that he had only intended to steal and not rob. The court rejected his claims, citing what it called the victims' consistent testimonies, along with a search history on the defendant's phone related to punishment for armed robbery.
