"An artistic gala marked the first evening of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the first one to the country in nearly seven years. Footage shows DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and First Lady Ri Sol-ju welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan upon their arrival at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on Monday night. During the performance, the two leaders could be seen chatting and smiling, seemingly enjoying the show. According to the state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), in addition to the vibrant acrobatic performances, several Chinese and Korean songs, including the symbolic ‘New World’ and ‘Let's Sing of the New Age’, were performed on stage. “The performance won great admiration of the audience as it showed a world of solemn and fascinating art in harmony with beautiful and graceful songs and dances,” KCNA reported. Xi arrived in the DPRK capital earlier on Monday at Kim's invitation for his first overseas trip of the year. During talks, the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation and increase high-level exchanges. The Pyongyang summit follows a series of high-level meetings in Beijing, where Xi Jinping hosted back-to-back meetings with US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin in May. Ahead of Xi's arrival, DPRK state media called for united opposition to 'hegemonism and power politics'. The visit takes place weeks before the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance."
