India's ambitious Zojila Tunnel project has achieved a historic breakthrough with the successful breaching of the final rock wall. Stretching over 13 kilometers at an altitude of more than 11,500 feet, the tunnel will become the world's longest bi-directional single-tube high-altitude road tunnel. Once operational, it will provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh, ending months of winter isolation caused by heavy snowfall and avalanches. The project is expected to reduce travel time across the Zojila Pass from nearly 3.5 hours to just 20 minutes while boosting tourism, trade, economic activity, and strategic military mobility.
