Transmitted by Ticks: Alongshan Virus Detected in Vienna

The Alongshan virus (ALSV), which is transmitted by ticks, has been detected for the first time in Austria, including in Vienna. Scientists from the Center for Virology at MedUni Vienna have determined through genetic analyses of tick samples that the virus has been present in Central Europe for at least 20 years. In 2017, ALSV was first identified in China in individuals with febrile illnesses. According to MedUni, further investigations into the health significance and spread are required.
