Pangilinan seeks P15B supplemental budget for Mindanao earthquake relief, recovery, reconstruction efforts

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Francis Pangilinan has sought a P15-billion supplemental budget for relief and reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Mindanao. He filed Senate Bill (SB) 2259 seeking the additional fund for fiscal year 2026 to address the needs of the communities devastated by the strong tremor that struck parts of Mindanao Monday morning. “Ang prayoridad natin sa gitna ng sakunang ito ay ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan sa Mindanao (Our priority amid this tragedy is the welfare of our fellowmen in Mindanao)," Pangilinan said on Tuesday. Pangilinan said the funding should be sourced “out of any available funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated. The fund will augment the current budget of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to address the needs of the affected areas in Mindanao.
