Marcos admin vows sustained efforts for jobs creation amid economic challenges

MALACAÑANG on Tuesday reiterated the Marcos administration’s commitment to sustain the creation of quality and productive jobs for Filipinos following the country’s improved employment rate listed last April. Citing data from the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev), Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro noted total employment increased to 48.89 million in April, with the services sector accounting for 62.3 percent of all jobs. She attributed the positive figures to the resilience of Filipino workers and continued government interventions, including job creation, investment promotion, and livelihood assistance for displaced workers and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). “There are many challenges in our economy, but because Filipinos do not give up and the government continues to intervene, such as creating quality and productive jobs, encouraging investments, and providing livelihoods to those who have lost their jobs and returning OFWs, the results have been good,” Castro said in Filipino in a Palace briefing. But despite the positive development, the official stressed that the government will not cease in its efforts to ensure livelihoods for Filipinos. “Even though the employment rate has increased slightly, our government continues to create quality jobs, and continues to provide livelihood projects to our countrymen," Castro said. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), led by acting Secretary Francis Tolentino, remains focused on employment generation, social protection, and improving public services. It likewise continues to roll out initiatives to strengthen workers’ competitiveness by building clearer pathways from education to employment and equipping Filipinos with skills needed in a rapidly evolving labor market. “The government, especially the president, will not stop working to empower and provide opportunities to our countrymen.,” Castro said.
