Nintendo Switch Sports Resort was just announced during Nintendo's big summer Direct, and it looks like the exact revival of the Wii Sports era I've been waiting for. Switch sports dropped o the original Switch a few years ago, but it had so few games that it felt underbaked; Nintendo Switch Sports Resort revealed 12 events right out the gate, including the return of the plane you can use to explore Wuhu Island, and that's exactly what I was hoping for. Even better, the game was revealed alongside a release date: October 22. Check out some screens below to get an idea of the gameplay. Here are the events revealed so far: Archery Table Tennis Tennis Skateboarding Power Cruising (on a jet ski!) Thumb Wrestling Prop Plane Boxing Golf Jump Rope (this isn't technically a sport – just a warm-up) Volleyball Bowling Basketball Each game uses 1-2 Joy Con 2s, and either relies on motion controls or, in the case or something like skateboarding, mouse controls. When you play the game, you can pick between a Sportsmate, a newer style of customizable character introduced in Switch Sports, or a traditional Mii, if you want that classic (dare I say retro) Wii Sports vibe. Given the recent success of Tomodachi Life, I expect most players will lean that way anyways. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort comes out on October 22, later this year.
