A struggling local beer league softball team has had an abysmal start to the season, so the team collectively decided to bring in some extra offensive firepower. In comes former Toronto Blue Jays slugger Josh Donaldson , the 2015 American League MVP. The former third baseman showed up to Art Ferguson Park in Newmarket on Monday night to bat in the cleanup spot for the Brew Jays, in an effort to help the team win its first game of the season. "We were sick of losing, so one of our players sent Josh a message on Instagram and he replied asking when and where we played," Brew Jays captain Caleb Garbe told blogTO. "It was that easy." While the Brew Jays knew Donaldson was coming, their opponents apparently had no idea. "The other team was genuinely shocked," Garbe said. As expected, the former American League MVP gave the Brew Jays a much-needed offensive boost. Donaldson went 4-for-4 at the plate and launched two home runs into the woods beyond the left-field fence. Yet, the Brew Jays still lost the game 12-9, dropping to 0-4 on the summer season. Donaldson went 4-for-4 with two home runs, but it wasn't enough to power the Brew Jays to their first win. (@brewjaysofficial/Instagram) Donaldson played parts of four seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays between 2015 and 2018. He remains one of two players in franchise history to win the American League MVP award. The other is George Bell, who won the award during the 1987 season. If you're wondering what it will take for the Brew Jays to finally get into the win column, Garbe says he thinks the answer is — two former AL MVPs. "We can't get any worse at this point," laughs Garbe.
