Isko turns over P62.5M subsidy to PLM for 2026 funding

MANILA, Philippines — The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) received P62.5 million in city subsidy from the Manila government to support the university’s operations for the second quarter of 2026. Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso turned over the subsidy check to PLM President Domingo “Sonny” Reyes Jr. on Tuesday, June 9. The funding is part of Manila’s continued subsidy support for PLM, the city’s public university, as it aims to expand its capacity to train more professionals, particularly in health-related fields. The city government said it is working to restore PLM’s previous level of financial support after its annual subsidy was reduced under the previous administration. Before Domagoso’s first term, PLM received P250 million annually from the city, which was increased to P360 million before being reduced to P210 million later. The additional funding comes as PLM prepares for the expansion of its health sciences programs through the new College of Allied Health Sciences Building inside the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center complex. The facility, which broke ground in February, is expected to increase PLM’s capacity for hospital-based training of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals. Domagoso said the project aims to help expand the university’s annual student capacity from 300 to 5,000.
