PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday led the commissioning of BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS-21), the country’s second offshore patrol vessel (OPV) which is expected to boost the Philippine Navy’s capability to conduct more patrols in the West Philippine Sea. The president, joined by Armed Forces chief Romeo Brawner Jr., graced the 128th Philippine Navy anniversary celebration at the Philippine Navy headquarters in Manila. The BRP Rajah Lakandula, the sister ship of the first OPV, BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20), which was commissioned last February, arrived at the Naval Operating Base Subic in Zambales on May 8. “This development reflects the Philippine Navy’s continued commitment to strengthening maritime security, enhancing territorial defense, and contributing to regional peace and stability,” the Philippine Navy said in a statement. “The commissioning ceremony symbolizes a naval force that embraces modernization while remaining anchored in its core mission of service to the Filipino people,” it added.
