SEN. Bong Go called for an immediate safety assessment of buildings and infrastructure in areas damaged by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on Monday. “I call on our local government units to conduct an immediate assessment of all affected buildings and structures, as the safety of our countrymen must be the top priority to prevent further damage,” Go said Monday in Filipino. The senator urged national government agencies to swiftly assist workers and families whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the disaster. “Rapid interventions are needed for those who have lost their livelihoods, especially ordinary workers in establishments that have temporarily closed because of the damage,” he said. This comes as authorities continue to evaluate the impact of the earthquake across affected areas in Mindanao. Go emphasized the need for a comprehensive response, including the immediate restoration of electricity, clearing and repair of damaged roads, support for displaced families, and stronger coordination among government agencies involved in relief and recovery efforts. “We must do everything we can as soon as possible — from restoring power and traffic flow on damaged roads to assisting families who have lost their homes and livelihoods and strengthening coordination in relief and recovery operations,” the senator added.
